4 Ideas for Your Spring Adventures in Champaign

West Quad is all about community and fun, which is why we want to highlight some Champaign spring adventures that are all about exploring the city and having a good time.

Where Can I Go to Explore the Outdoors in Champaign?

You won’t want to miss Busey Woods this spring. This 59-acre oak-hickory forest features a 1/3-mile elevated boardwalk and a stunning spring wildflower display. For a quick getaway, try Meadowbrook Park and its 130 acres of natural areas, community gardens, walking paths, and a sculpture garden. And if you don’t want to leave the comforts of West Quad, try the Urbana Park District’s virtual hikes on Facebook.

Where Can I Go for a Spring Treat in Champaign-Urbana?

Start a lazy spring Sunday with brunch at Aroma Café & Kitchen. Their unique entrees, like Masa Pancakes and Churro French Toast Sticks, are local favorites, and everybody loves their coffee selection. You can dine in, or order online for pickup.

And if you want something sweet and celebratory, try a cupcake or cinnamon roll from Sweet Indulgence Bakery.

Where Is the Best Spring Shopping in Champaign?

You absolutely must visit Exile on Main Street, which has consistently been voted the best record store in Champaign-Urbana. It’s a favorite of local vinyl lovers, and they work hard to support local musicians.

If books are more up your alley, check out Jane Addams Bookshop. Fifteen rooms, four floors, and 70,000+ titles – it’s every book lover’s dream.

What Are the Best “Outside-the-Box” Spring Adventures in Champaign?

There are always a plethora of virtual events going on in the Champaign-Urbana region, and even more now that spring is here. For all you brainiacs, try the online trivia event, Reclaiming our Time, through the Urbana Library. Yes, you can play with a team!

If art is more your thing, sign up for Krannert Art Museum’s Art Talk Thursdays. March 18’s scheduled Zoom event will feature an exploration of ancient Andean art.

And if you want to let loose and have some fun, try The Canopy Club’s Virtual Open Mic Night. You can sign up to perform over Zoom, or watch the event from the club’s website every Monday.

Whether you want to explore these Illinois treasures or relax in your tricked-out apartment near University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, we’ve got you covered.
